Spin and orbital magnetism of rare-earth dopants

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to perform a research on frontline topic of exploration the unique electronic and magnetic properties of the rare-earth (RE) elements at the nanoscale. An important aspect in the proposal is the development and applications of new electronic structure methodologies based on the ideas of the dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) for theoretical modeling of the realistic materials. The RE adatoms on MgO/Ag(001) surface, and RE-dopants in topological insulator Bi2Te3 will be studied. These studies are important for potential applications of RE materials in nanotechnology.
