Quantum entanglement is a fascinating feature of quantum physics – the theory of the very small. If two particles are quantum-entangled, the state of one particle is tied to that of the other, no matter how far apart the particles are.
ICHEP2024, the largest international conference on high energy physics, attracted 1400 participants from 55 countries to Prague. In addition to thousands of lectures, scientists were also offered three panels – two dealing with the future of particle physics and its benefits for society and the third on the importance of education and popularisation of science.
The ICHEP 2024 conference, the premier event in particle and astroparticle physics, is set to take place from18 to 24 July at the Prague Congress Centre. Our friend and colleague, Miloš Lokajíček, PhD, CSc., long-standing staff member of the Division of Elementary Particle Physics at the Institute of Physics of the CAS, passed away at the age of 70 on Wednesday, June 14th. Miloš was involved in almost all the key experiments in which we participated and contributed significantly to them, especially in the field of acquisition and processing of experimental data.
Two diplomas confirming the highest achievable qualification in a scientist’s career – Doctor of Sciences – has been handed over by the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Eva Zažímalová to two employees from the Institute of Physics: RNDr. Stanislav Kamba, CSc., DSc., and Mgr.
