Influence of photoinduced isomerization on the chiral separation of novel liquid crystalline materials with a diazene moiety

Text

Materials exhibiting mesomorphic behavior were separated in their E and Z isomeric forms. Under optimized conditions we were able to separate S and R enantiomers of studied materials in their E isomeric form.

We first demonstrated the effect of photoinduced isomerization and its use in enantioseparation in relatively simple molecules, where it was demonstrated that this procedure can be applied to much more complex structures and that E-Z isomerization strongly affects their chromatographic behavior.

Description
Chromatograms of the racemic mixture and pure (S) –enantiomer of photosensitive material. Separation of the racemic mixture (a) and pure (S) -enantiomer (b) measured in the dark, and separation of the same materials after UV irradiation, the racemic mixture (c) and the pure (S) -enantiomer (d). The separation conditions are described in the article which the image is taken from DOI: 10.1002 / jssc.201601386.
