Multiferroics induced by mechanical strain

Abstract

Growing of thin films of EuO, SrMnO3, BiFeO3 and Ca3Mn2O7 and their magnetic characterization at Cornell University. Study of phonon spectra using infrared and terahertz spectroscopies at various temperatures. Measurements of microwave dielectric permittivity for determination of ferroelectric phase transition temperatures. XRD studies of lattice parameters will be performed in the films exhibiting phase transitions above 200 K.  The main goal is to find new multiferroics with the highest possible critical temperatures. Results will be published in journals with high impact factors.
