A successful transition of spin-related processes from gigahertz to the terahertz (THz) frequencies is one of the desired goals of the up-to-date spintronics [1]. The intense ultrashort THz pulses are an excellent experimental tool to explore the dynamics of the equilibrium and transient spin order in this frequency range which is, in general, hardly accessible by the conventional electronics [2].
In this talk, the ultrafast spin to charge current conversion due to the anomalous and spin Hall effects will be discussed in the context of thin semiconducting and metallic heterostructures. On these examples, such as the broadband spintronic THz emission [3] and THz spin/charge accumulation, the ultrafast THz spectroscopy will be presented as a way not only to probe but also to drive spin-polarized currents.
