Several grafting strategies for attaching organic dyes and linking polymers to diamond nanoparticles will be developed in order to obtain suitable energy conversion function. Well-defined DNP surface will be obtained by using plasma chemistry and thermal annealing. Fundamental mechanisms related to the interaction with light and electronic transport will be investigated on the functionalized nanoparticles by macroscopic and microscopic methods. Experimental data will be supported by theoretical calculations of vibrational and electronic states of functionalized nanoparticles.
