Professor Tomáš Jungwirth from the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences has been included in the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list of the world's most cited scientists for the fourth time. This annual list recognizes researchers whose contributions have demonstrated broad and significant influence in their fields.
On October 28, 2025, the President of the Czech Republic awarded the Medal of Merit to Professor Tomáš Jungwirth, head of the Spintronics and Nanoelectronics Department at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Professor Jungwirth and his team were behind a discovery that paves the way for digital data storage that is a thousand times faster.
On October 6, 2025, physicist Václav Špička from the Institute of Physics received the De scientia et humanitate optime meritis medal, the highest award of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The world's leading mineralogist Jakub Plášil has been unravelling complex crystal structures and discovering new minerals for years. At first glance, it might seem that this is a marginal area of science that is not "in vogue" today. Yet Plášil and his colleagues are making discoveries that have broader implications – for example, in understanding how uranium and other metallic elements are distributed in nature. His research has won him an award by the European Mineralogical Union.
The awardees of this year’s ATLAS Outstanding Achievement Award included also a Czech scientist. Michal Svatoš, a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, was honoured for his fundamental contribution to the effective integration of supercomputers into the computing infrastructure of one of the largest physics experiments of our time – the ATLAS detector at the LHC accelerator at CERN.
The poster titled "Anonymization: The Future is Unbiased", presented by the FZU team (led by Markéta Iffland and Lucie Speváková) at the EARMA–INORMS Congress 2025, has been selected by expert committee as the best poster. The event, held from 6 to 8 May 2025 in Madrid, Spain, brought together over 2,000 research management professionals from 67 countries, offering a unique platform for in-person networking and exchange of best practices.
Mykhailo Khytko, a solar energy scientist and father of two-year-old Mark, shows that achieving balance between demanding scientific work and parenthood is possible. This year, he was one of the recipients of the prestigious Martina Roeselová Memorial Fellowship, which helps young scientists continue cutting-edge research while parenting.
