Physics for Future (P4F)

Will Barker is part of a new generation of theoretical physicists reshaping how we think about gravity, black holes, and the fundamental structure of the universe. His recent research explores the strange frontier where Einstein’s general relativity may no longer hold — a region populated not by traditional black holes, but by their uncanny cousins: black hole mimickers. Since joining the Physics for Future fellowship in Prague, Barker’s work has taken on a broader scope. In this interview, he reflects on the role of uncertainty in physics, how cosmology can test bold new ideas, and why running to work through the hills of Prague has become part of his scientific routine.

The poster titled "Anonymization: The Future is Unbiased", presented by the FZU team (led by Markéta Iffland and Lucie Speváková) at the EARMA–INORMS Congress 2025, has been selected by expert committee as the best poster. The event, held from 6 to 8 May 2025 in Madrid, Spain, brought together over 2,000 research management professionals from 67 countries, offering a unique platform for in-person networking and exchange of best practices.

Altermagnets and magnonics have both made the headlines repeatedly last year. The Institute of Physics (FZU) of the Czech Academy of Sciences hosted a major event on September 14, welcoming 130 participants to a kick-off meeting of Physics for Future. The central mission of this Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND project is to recruit 60 exceptionally talented postdoctoral researchers.

FZU has just launched the first call of Physics for Future (P4F) MSCA COFUND Action designed for a new generation of physicists, allowing them to execute their own bottom-up research projects. P4F also offers an opportunity for an integrated blend of advanced scientific, transferable, and soft skill training.
