Announcement of the winners of the FZU photo competition for 2025

Abstract

On Friday, November 7, during the Open Days at FZU, the winners of the FZU photo competition were announced and received their awards from FZU Director Michael Prouza. In the employee category, first place went to a photograph byintern Lucie Krejčová entitled Crack. The student category was dominated by Adam Lorenc, a second-year student at Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, whose photographs of crystalline silicon carbide took first and second place.

Abstract

The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences organizes the Physics Photography 2025 competition, which this year is thematically dedicated to "wealth". The deadline for submissions is October 14, 2025. The photography competition will conclude with an awards ceremony and an exhibition of the winning and selected photographs at the Na Slovance complex during the Open Days at the Czech Academy of Sciences Week (November 3–9, 2025).

FZU announces the Physics Photography 2024 competition. This year's theme: Transformation

Abstract

The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences organizes the Physics Photography 2024 competition, which this year is thematically dedicated to "transformation".  The main goal of the competition is to popularize the beauty of physics and to break the stereotypes of the perception of this field of science. The photography competition ends with the announcement of winners and an exhibition of the awarded and selected photos during the Night of Scientists, which is organized by the institute in the Na Slovance facility on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Abstract

This year's photography competition, entitled The Charm of Physics, is now open to students as well as current and former FZU employees. Each participant can submit up to 5 photos. The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2023.

Abstract

This year’s photography competition named The Charm of Physics is now open – apart from the current and former FZU employees – to high school students. Each contestant can submit up to 5 photos. The submission deadline is 31 October 2022.

The photo called “The Outcome of the Battle Between Martensite Variants” wins the FZU Photo Competition 2021

Abstract

The best photo of the FZU Photo Competition 2021 was taken by Denyse Musiienko, Ladislav Straka and Ross Colman using interference microscopy to capture a martensitic structure. In an absolute ranking of 126 submissions, second place was won by Alexej Bubonov, who also came second in 2020. The winners of this year’s contest have won third place too.
