Three apparatuses for crystal growth by the vertical Bridgman method allow preparation of single crystals from the melt of halide materials in enclosed quartz ampoules under protective atmosphere. Furnaces consist of two to five independent resistively heated sections controlled by temperature regulators Eurotherm enabling to reach maximal temperature 1000 °C. Ampoules with molten starting charge are pulled down through temperature gradient (10-50 K/cm) into lower cooler part of the furnace with pulling rates from 0.1 to 3.5 mm/h. In this way, single crystals with dimensions defined by the diameter of ampoules (15-28 mm) and with total experimental duration from 10 to 20 days can be prepared.
