We have successfully grown single crystals of lutetium sulfide (Lu₂S₃), both undoped and doped with praseodymium (Pr³⁺), using an advanced micro-pulling-down technique. This marks the first time Lu₂S₃ crystals have been grown from a melt. Our research demonstrates that these crystals exhibit promising optical properties, making them potential candidates for high-performance scintillators, laser materials, and optoelectronic applications. By customizing the technological process, we overcame the challenges associated with crystal growth of high-melting-point sulfides, opening new possibilities for the development of next-generation radiation detectors and optical components.
