Preparation of crystals of complex oxides

Text

Materials derived from Lu3Al5O12 aluminum garnets (LuAG) and YAlO3 (YAP) perovskites doped with rare earth ions, lithium-containing crystals, or perovskite-based materials such as YAlO3 (YAP) or LaAlO3 (LaAP) are prepared.

The crystals are grown by micro-pulling-down method, a modern unique technology for the growth of crystals from the melt. The apparatus was installed in our laboratory in 2015 and as the first of its kind in the Czech Republic. This method allows to prepare single crystals of oxides with a diameter of several millimeters (3-5 mm) and a length of several centimeters (see figure) in a very short time (in the order of hours to tens of hours).
