Abstract
We will investigate Fe(III) spin crossover (SCO) complexes for the detection of poisonous gases. [FeIII(4-NEt2-sal2323)]X was chosen since they are robust, stable in air and in moist environments without undergoing oxidation. We will, in collaboration with UCD, synthesize and characterize the proposed complexes. We will then prepare thin films using wet and vacuum techniques and test them towards hazardous gases (NOx, CO2, VOCs) to gain information about their chemiresistive sensor properties. This project offers an opportunity to explore a new route for Fe(III) SCO complexes towards gas sensing applications.
