Combined severe plastic deformation for producing shaped ultra-fine-grained materials with gradient structures

Abstract
New routes for severe plastic deformation will be developed which combine extrusion, ECAP and simultaneous shear. One of them called Sheared ECAP of Extruded Tube (SEET) is able to produce tubes with ultra-fine grained microstructure exhibiting gradients of the grain size and the texture. Its modification provides thin sheets with ultra-fine grained microstructure. The ability of the methods for production of such structures in the samples will be tested in detail using suitable Al based alloys. Investigation of microstructure and fundamental materials properties of the samples produced in such routes in dependence on the process parameters will represent an important contribution to the basic knowledge. Proposed methods represent further progress in the field of production of materials with nanocrystalline and ultra-fine grained microstructures.
