Biosensor technology for security: adaptable solution for field use (BIOSEC)

Abstract
The current global security crisis highlights the need for portable biodetectors that would quickly and reliably detect pathogens in a wide range of samples. The project is aimed at the development and commercialization of a compact biodetection system for field use that can respond quickly and flexibly to changing threats. Interdisciplinary research is focused on (1) portable quartz microbalance (QCM)-based hardware, (2) functional biochips with tunable polymer nano-coatings, and (3) advanced microfluidics. The methodologies will be verified on real samples and real pathogens in BSL-2,-3 laboratories and in the field in collaboration with SÚJCHBO, and the Protection Service of the PCR. The main result of the project will be innovative technology with a direct impact on the security field.
