Abstract
Basic research on spin polarized zinc oxide (sZnO) nanostructures will be carried out in close cooperation between the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Czech Technical University in Prague and the National University of Pingtung in Taiwan. The project covers several complementary research areas: technology of new spin polarized nanomaterials (magnetron sputtering, hydrothermal growth and vacuum evaporation), advanced characterization methods (optical spectroscopy, electron microscopy, magneto-optical measurements, electron paramagnetic resonance and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and theoretical modelling (DFT) on atomic-scale, and energetic models of interface defects, including oxygen vacancies and hydrogen passivation, surface crystal orientation, chemical bond states, and vibration spectra. By joining Czech and Taiwanese teams and expertise, the project aims to elucidate the role of magnetic field, surface states on spin polarized band structures, photocatalytic effects, photogeneratiojn of electrons and holes and charge transfer.
