Nanodiamonds improve photocatalytic properties of TiO2

Text

By using a simple and industrially applicable method, we succeeded in preparing a highly efficient nanocomposite based on TiO2 and detonation nanodiamonds with three times better decomposition efficiency of the chemical warfare agent Soman and with significantly higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO2. Using various analytical techniques, nanodiamonds have been found to improve the adsorption and dissociation of organophosphate compounds, but also to improve charge separation of photo-excited electron-hole pairs, thereby enhancing the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. This research has attracted attention in the media (Czech Television, Czech Radio, TV Nova, Metro, etc.)
