New nanostructured materials and methods for the preparation of carbon based boron doped electrodes (NanoCarBor)

Abstract

A new technology for the preparation of materials for nanostructured carbon and boron compounds will be developed and implemented. These materials will be used in the form of electrodes (targets for the PVD deposition system) directly by one of the project members (company HVM Plasma) in the modification of components produced primarily for the automotive industry. Due to the presence of intercalated boron, the homogeneity of the carbon target is increased and the quality of the applied layers is significantly improved. Better quality coating will then contribute to the reduction of friction and increase the lifespan of parts in mechanical machines, especially in the internal combustion engines. At the same time, this will lead to lower CO2 emissions, reduced fuel consumption and thus easier compliance with the EURO 6 emission standard. This is a completely new solution worldwide. The role of FZÚ as a co-investigator is based on the utilization of unique diagnostic methods (combined AFM, SEM, micro-Raman, EDX, XPS, etc.) for the study both of the material of electrodes and of the applied thin films.
