Among the most important extra activities of the Department of Semiconductors is the organisation of the prestigious, globally recognized series of international conferences FQMT (IC Frontiers of Quantum and Mesoscopic Thermodynamics, fqmt.fzu.cz), held exclusively in Prague since 2004. The 11th edition of this conference will take place in 2026. The permanent Chairman of both program and organizing committees, V. Špička, and many other members of organizing committee belong just to our Department. Over the years, there have been significant changes in the focus of the conferences; today, the conference has a distinctly multidisciplinary character and deals with hot topics in contemporary physics, from the fundamentals of quantum physics and quantum thermodynamics to biophysics, astrophysics, and cosmology. These exciting topics have attracted a number of world-renowned physicists to each FQMT conference. For example, the 2019 conference was attended by four Nobel Prize winners (Wolfgang Ketterle, William Phillips, Gerard 't Hooft, and Rainer Weiss). Among the participants of the last conference, FQMT'24, we find other renowned physicists such as Peter Hänggi, John C. Mather, Franco Nori, and Marlan O. Scully. Given that some of the conference topics are also close to the topics addressed in our departments, we have been regularly giving invited lectures at this conference.
