Recoverability of strains and deformation twinning in martensite during tensile deformation of NiTi shape memory alloy polycrystals

Perex

Deformation mechanism of plastic deformation activated upon loading beyond the yield point was revealed based on the results of systematic investigation of the tensile deformation of NiTi shape memory alloy filaments in wide temperature range, analyses of recoverable and permanent deformation and analysis of lattice defects in deformed filaments by TEM. It was found that the plastic deformation is not only due to dislocation slip in martensite as widely assumed in the field but also due to deformation twinning.
