Rotan laboratory is an institutional laboratory of X-ray diffraction methods. Its staff operates diffractometers and provides X-ray diffraction measurements and data processing for research groups from all departments of the Institute of Physics (FZU). Unlike the Department of structure analysis, Rotan laboratory is not focused on new crystal structures solution, but it is aimed at the characterisation of quality and microstructure of materials and heterostructures (layers, coatings, surface-modified materials) prepared by various technologies from determined materials. Moreover, it provides in-situ experiments (e.g. phase transformations) on materials at low/high temperature, under mechanical load, etc. Included is also technical support such as orienting of single-crystals by means of Laue method to allow for the preparation of specimens before subsequent machining or experiments carried on at other workplaces.
