Electrical activity of ferroelectric biomaterials

Text

If a ferroelectric is immersed in a liquid, an electric double layer and a diffusion layer are formed at the interface. This is decisive for protein adsorption and bioactive behaviour, particularly for the adhesion and growth of bone cells. The charge distribution can be characterized by zeta potential. which was measured in dependence on the surface polarity of poled ferroelectric single crystalline LiNbO3 plates. Our results indicate that the charge distribution at the surface is influenced by the surface polarity of ferroelectrics. It is in accordance with biologic experiments.

The measurement of LiNbO3 zeta potential
Description
The measurement of zeta potential shows that surface polarity of ferroelectric LiNbO3 influences the electric charge distribution in a liquid at solid – liquid interface.
