Physics at Five

Teachers & Scientists have transformed into Physics at Five. The name has changed, wonderful dives into current physics stay!

Would you like to learn more about current issues in physics? Or do you teach and would like to find out how to present complex topics to students? Do you want to get to know the environment of Czech and global science?

Join our "tea at five with physics" with talks and informal discussions with scientists from the Institute of Physics, other institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and universities. Typically, the Physics at Five meetings are held in Czech, since they are primarily for the general public and teachers at Czech schools; occasionally, there will be a talk in English.

How it works

  • We welcome all people interested in learning more about science. For teachers, we also offer worksheets (in Czech; per request, they could be translated into English) they can use in their classes or as a source of inspiration.
  • We prepare the program in collaboration with Pátečníci, on whose YouTube channel you can watch the stream if unable to join in person. The recordings are later available at the FZU CAS YouTube channel.
  • The meetings are informal over a cup of coffee or tea. In selected topics, visitors are invited to excursions to our labs.
  • You can suggest new topics yourself! Please send your suggestions to Julie Nekola Nováková at novakovajn [at] fzu [dot] cz (novakovajn[at]fzu[dot]cz).

When and where?

  • Typically the first Tuesday in a calendar month. We start at 5 p.m., the duration is approx. 1.5 hours.
  • The event itself and the selected topic is announced on this web page or on our Facebook two weeks prior to the event.
  • Once the event is announced, also registration via our registration system is opened at rezervace.fzu.cz
  • Events take place in the Dvořák Hall at FZU CAS in Prague 8 - Ládví (street Pod Vodárenskou věží 1).
