A Magneto-Electric Liquid – Better Sensing (MAGNELIQ)

Abstract

FET grant MAGNELIQ, in a consortium of 5 international partners, joins forces to develop a new liquid material with magnetoelectric (ME) properties for innovative sensors. Magnetoelectric effect discovered in the 1960s enables engineers to control electric properties with a magnetic field and vice versa. While solid ME materials such as multiferroics are well-suited to 'hard' devices, radical vision of MAGNELIQ is to prepare liquid ME nanomaterials based on magnetic nanoplatelets with organic ligands, which enable very high sensitivity to detect small changes, resulting in excellent resolution.
