FZU laser centres are celebrating their tenth birthdays
This year marks a decade since the European Commission and the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports approved two unique laser research projects ELI Beamlines and HiLASE, which were both successfully implemented as part of the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In celebration of the anniversary, an official meeting attended by the representatives of leading Czech and foreign institutions took place at ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany. In a video-call, it was also joined on-line by Gérard Mourou, the winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics and the initiator of the centre at the European level.
Laser – From the Cradle to ELI
ELI Beamlines is a European research centre operating the most powerful laser system in the world. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of laser discovery, we spoke about the details of the inception of and the planned research at ELI Beamlines with Professor Jan Řídký, who conceived the project in cooperation with his colleagues.
Ernst Mach medals have been awarded to long-time collaborators of the Institute of Physics
A medal received a Slovak experimental scientist in the field of elementary particles, doc Brunckov. The second medal went to the department of physical chemistry at Munich University. Other honoured fields were the geophysics, philosophy or literature science.
AugerPrime Inauguration
The Pierre Auger Observatory is the world’s leading science project for the exploration of cosmic rays. The Observatory has achieved excellent results helping scientists to better understand particles with energies more than a million times larger than the beam energy at the current world largest accelerator.
The Building of the Year 2015: HiLASE receives the Special award from the President of the Senate
The HiLASE laser centre situated in the village of Dolni Brezany was awarded in the 23rd edition of the Building of the Year Awards. The organizer of this prestigious competition is the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction. This year a record number of 72 buildings were registered.
