Hydrogenation of HPHT Nanodiamonds

Our study in Diamond and Related Materials (2023) [DOI: 10.1016/j.diamond.2023.109754] focused on the hydrogenation of HPHT NDs and their interaction with chitosan. We achieved and established that fully hydrogenated HPHT NDs with relatively high positive zeta potential over 30 mV and IEP at pH = 9 can be achieved by annealing in hydrogen at 800°C. We also proved their unexpected interaction with chitosan, which may help to stabilize hydrogenated NDs in biological media and can help to anchor metal nanoparticles, as demonstrated. This research was conducted in collaboration with experts in surface characterization of nanomaterials (Department 27).
