A Comprehensive Study of Second and Third Harmonic Conversion Efficiency, Angular and Temperature Tolerance and Long-Term Stability in Lithium Triborate Crystals Using a 10-J-Class Laser

Text

The work presents an experimental study of second and third harmonic generation in LBO crystals using a ~10 J laser. High conversion efficiencies of 75% for second and 56% for third harmonic generation were achieved, together with detailed measurements of angular and temperature acceptances and long-term stabilities. Results confirm LBO crystals as reliable nonlinear media for high-energy, high-average-power generation of harmonic beams in advanced laser systems.

The images present the dependence of the second and third harmonic output energies and corresponding conversion efficiencies on input energy of the fundamental harmonic obtained using the 10-J amplifier of the BIVOJ laser at the HiLASE Centre. The results show efficient harmonic generation and confirm the suitability of LBO crystals for high-energy, high-average-power wavelength conversion.
