Effects of sacrificial coating material in laser shock peening of L-PBF printed AlSi10Mg

Text

Laser shock peening (LSP) is a technique used to increase fatigue resistance of materials, which is crucial for 3D-printed parts. In this article, we described the impact of different sacrificial coatings during LSP on the final properties. The coating material influences the pressure of the shockwave generated by the laser, which affects microstructure, surface quality, and residual stresses. Based on these findings, we can better apply LSP in demanding applications such as aerospace.
