Dr. Jiri Cervenka is a Science Secretary of FZU and a group leader of the research group of Nanoscale Materials and Systems in the Department of Thin Films and Nanostructures. Research in his group is primarily focused on the development of advanced materials, electrodes, and electrolyte systems for next-generation electrochemical energy storage technologies, with particular emphasis on aqueous batteries, zinc-ion batteries, dual-ion batteries, and lithium-ion batteries with silicon anodes. The group also exploits advanced nanomaterials for electronic sensing applications and fundamental studies of surfaces and interfaces.

His current research activities include:

  • aqueous batteries (particularly zinc-ion batteries and dual-ion batteries)
  • Li-ion batteries with silicon anodes
  • advanced electrolyte systems (aqueous, water-in-salt, gel and solid electrolytes)
  • nanostructured electrode materials
  • solid-state physics and physics of surfaces and interfaces
  • 2D materials (graphene) and low-dimensional semiconductors (nanosilicon)
  • electronic sensors (tactile and gas sensors)
