Nanopowders of mixed or ternary oxides, and synthetic garnets will be prepared and doped with foreign ions by ionizing and UV radiations. Radiation method provides materials of the high purity, narrow particle size distribution and high level of interaction among constituents. We will prepare the materials by irradiation of aqueous solutions of metal ions, scavengers and stabilizers. We will study kinetics of nanoparticle growth in aqueous environment under various conditions. Formed nanopowders will be processed and thoroughly characterized. Basic properties regarding potential applications will be addressed. Obtained results will enrich the knowledge and understanding of mechanisms of radiation induced formation of nanoparticles. Selected materials whose radiation preparation is, so far, not reported in literature have a high application potential as scintillating nanoparticles in photodynamic therapy in cancer treatment, or scintillators based on transparent optical ceramics.
