The project brings exceptional connection of the unique technology of the ELI Beamlines laser center with modern methods of testing monuments such as pixe and (D)PAA methods. The uniqueness in the use of the laser system as a source of accelerated particles for these non-destructive test methods brings several basic advantages: (i) the possibility of non-destructive vacuum-free testing, (ii) testing both methods on a single device and (iii) optimal adaptation of particle energy based on the subject under review.

The main objective of the project is to provide institutions in the city, particularly in the areas of collection activities and heritage care, access to non-destructive methods of testing the characteristics of these objects. The target will be achieved thanks to two technologies:

Technology 1 PIXE

This technology allows to obtain information about the element composition of the object under review without the need to use the vacuum and to reduce the size of the object. The method is entirely non-destructive and will be usable for a wide range of objects (coins, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, textiles).

Technology 2 (D)PAA

This technology represents the world's unique use of the laser source of accelerated particles. The method will allow testing up to the depths of hundreds of micrometers and thus obtain information even under a corroded layer of metal objects.
