Bi-layers of hematite Fe2O3 / TiO2 were deposited with very low photocorrosion in the electrolyte. Fe2O3 hematite layers were prepared by reactive pulsed magnetron sputtering and TiO2 layers by the sol-gel chemical method. The hematite layers annealed at 650 °C and 750 °C showed increased photo response due to doping with tin diffusing from the substrate to the layer. For Fe2O3 / TiO2 bilayers, the photoactivity in the visible range was greater than for hematite layers alone, by suppressing surface recombination of the carriers at the Fe2O3 / electrolyte interface.
