Research Interest

Electronic and structural properties of solids and their surfaces

With surface sensitive ultra-high-vacuum based analysis techniques like photoelectron emission spectroscopy and variable temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, the laboratory provides the infrastructure for advanced materials research, e.g., towards future applications in the fields of spintronics, valleytronics, solar cell, or sensor technology. Hereby, the facilities offer a rare combination of ultrahigh vacuum sample preparation tools with µ-ARPES and local XPS techniques to probe the local electronic band structure and chemical properties of individually selected µm-scale sample areas.

In recent years, we have focused on non-graphene 2D materials like CVD-grown or exfoliated transition metal chalcogenides (MoS2, WS2, SnS, SnSe2…), Fe-chalcogenides (FeSe, FeTe), or chalcogenide-based topological insulators.
