Transformation - plasticity coupling in NiTi shape memory alloy

The work presents a unique methodology and results of a series of unique experiments which enable evaluation of unrecovarable strains accompanying stress induced martensitic transformation in superelastic NiTi wires separately for forward and reverse transformations. A mechanism explaining generation of unrecoverable plastic strain during martensitic transformation under stress is introduced.
