Preparation and characterization of porous zinc prepared by spark plasma sintering as a material for biodegradable scaffolds

Perex

We prepared porous zinc by spark plasma sintering method. Two Zn powders with a different size were treated. Both materials possessed comparable porosity; however, the distribution of the pore size significantly differed. The samples prepared from the finer powder contained significantly smaller pores compared to that with larger size and showed mechanical behaviour similar to the trabecular bone. This material also showed significantly better cytocompatibility.
