Contributions to polarization and polarization switching in antiphase boundaries of SrTiO3 and PbZrO3

Text

The layer group analysis combined with Landau theory was used to investigate the polar properties of antiphase boundaries (APBs) in SrTiO3 and PbZrO3. It was shown that in addition to the biquadratic coupling of the order parameter (OP) and polarization in the Landau-Ginzburg free energy expansion, additional rotopolar terms of antiphase boundaries contribute considerably to the polarization in these materials.

Hard Neél-like APB in SrTiO3
Description
Hard Neél-like APB in SrTiO3.
Semi-quantitative behaviour of (a) OP-profiles φ3 and φ1 across a hard APB (31|32), n = [100] and (b) OP-trajectories in the OP-space. Note, the 2 possible signs of the nucleus at the APB center. The polarization profiles for the out-of-plain component P1 and in-plane component P3 predicted by the theory are shown in (c) and (d), respectively.
