Do you study at a secondary school or university and want to travel for science? The fund can support you on a short trip abroad. It can be a conference, a summer school, or a short research stay at a university or research institute.
How it works
It's simple. On the website of the Karel Výborný Foundation Fund, describe the project you want to work on abroad. Then add where you want to go, for how long, and why. The fund will pay the travel costs for the students it chooses.
Even a short trip abroad can change a lot. You will meet people from other workplaces, improve your foreign language, and see with your own eyes how science works in other countries. You will meet people you can work with in the future, and you will find out if your work is good enough abroad, too.
"It was my first trip outside Europe," says Lukáš Nádvorník. In 2010, thanks to Karel Výborný, he took part in ICPS, the most important international conference on semiconductor physics, in Seoul, South Korea.
"I understood that science, and not only physics, is something social and global. It depends on people, on their good connections, their teamwork, and on understanding each other. And none of this stops at borders."
Ready to go for it? You can take your time to decide. We accept applications until 30 June. But read the form early, so nothing surprises you later. Submit an application →
Karel Výborný and his mission
Karel Výborný was a theoretical physicist at the Institute of Physics. All his life, he helped young people find their way into the world. In August 2025 he died in a tragic accident in the mountains. The fund that carries his name continues his ideas.
