The stations invited everyone to explore. A celestial globe gave visitors a clear view of the night sky and the constellations as we know them from above. A model of a black hole showed how these cosmic objects warp the space around them. And anyone who wished could try their hand at observing through a telescope.
The youngest visitors took on special space missions and earned well-deserved rewards for completing them. There was also a light-hearted reminder that life in space comes with practical challenges, too. One of the favourite attractions was repairing a "space toilet," which gave children a playful sense of just how demanding it is to ensure everyday comfort in weightlessness.
Not all about space
The programme also had something for those who wanted a break from the stars. Children enjoyed creative workshops, face painting and a bouncy castle. They could also meet police officers and paramedics, who told them about their daily work. Family Day took place in a relaxed atmosphere. The Institute of Physics showed itself not only as a place for research, but also as a place where you are happy to bring your family.
We would like to thank all the colleagues who helped prepare and run the event. We also thank all the visitors who created such a warm, family atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
