Biodegradable metal materials for medical applications

Text

Biodegradable materials have been extensively studied in last several years. Their application would lead to the elimination of the resurgery, which is necessary to remove the implant after its lifespan approach to its end. Besides magnesium and iron, zinc-based materials have been extensively studied because they possess suitable corrosion rate and sufficient biocompatibility. Unfortunately, mechanical properties of cast zinc-based materials are poor. Therefore, those materials have to be thermomechanically treated in order to improve their mechanical performance.

The dissertation thesis is focused on zinc-based alloys containing the metals of the 2nd group of the periodic table and their working. The aim of the thesis is to suggest a chemical composition and subsequent thermomechanical treatment, which will lead to an improvement of the mechanical, corrosion and biological properties.
