What does the HR Excellence in Research Award bring us? The standards we are gradually setting help to improve working conditions, win prestigious grants, and support talented colleagues. They enable us to build strong and motivated work teams that contribute to the development of science and innovation at the local, European, and global levels through their results.
- HIRING AND SELECTION
During the recruitment and selection process, we ensure that new colleagues are recruited solely on the basis of their skills and experience.
We educate the members of the selection committees on the overall recruitment and selection system in terms of fair treatment of all candidates, objectivity, compliance with legal standards and the use of proven and professional procedures.
- ONBOARDING AND WELCOME OFFICE
We strive to provide our new colleagues with comprehensive information that they may need during their first days and weeks at FZU. Each new employee will go through an onboarding process with their HR partner, who will guide them through and answer any questions they may have.
For employees from abroad, we have a Welcome Office where they can learn about the necessary administrative matters and get a new employee handbook to help them adapt better to life in a new country.
- FEEDBACK
The regular feedback reviews help us ensure that every employee has the opportunity to get feedback from their supervisor, to review the past period together and to talk openly about their career development opportunities.
Regular discussions are also an opportunity to coordinate working relationships more systematically within individual teams or departments, as well as a space to discuss priorities and tasks for the coming period.
- WORK ETHICS AND COMPLAINTS
We promote healthy working relationships and create appropriate conditions to ensure a safe working environment and fair treatment of our employees.
Thanks to our involvement in the STOPPER project, we have trained peer workers who are available to employees to resolve any problematic situations.
Employees also have the option of using an anonymous form for suggestions and complaints or contacting their HR partner directly.
- EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND DIVERSITY
We prevent any discrimination or favouritism of employees on the basis of their gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, language or social conditions. We ensure that all employees feel comfortable and safe with us.
We have established an Equality and Diversity Panel (formerly the Gender Panel) to implement the Equality and Diversity Plan and to advocate that the working environment at FZU promotes work-life balance, ensures gender balance in leadership and decision-making and prevents any gender-based violence in the workplace.
- LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
We are committed to the development of our employees, both in soft and transferable skills. We try to adapt the form and content of our courses so that everyone can choose.
We are constantly expanding the range of in-house trainings on the basis of identified trends, needs or suggestions directly from employees. We provide training in face-to-face form, as well as online webinars and courses in the e-learning system.
- OPEN ACCESS
Open access to scientific data is becoming increasingly important and is required by many research funders. We have created the position of OA Specialist to help all researchers navigate the issues.
We have organised a number of training sessions on current trends in publishing results and data under the OA scheme and in the area of copyright.
- TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
As a part of the knowledge and technology transfer, we provide support to scientists in commercializing the outputs of their research and development activities to industry. We have improved the use of software tools to simplify and improve our work, for example by creating an intellectual property management tool.
We have carried out a number of training events in the institution. We have conducted market research which contributed to the creation of a database of potential collaborators.
- GRANT OFFICE
We have established a Grant Office at FZU, which sends out a regular newsletter, provides individual consultations on grant calls and revises project proposals for the requirements of grant providers.
We have developed the GRASYS grant system, become a member of EARMA, the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators, and CZARMA, its Czech equivalent. We give lectures to the professional community and teach at summer schools.
- SCIENCE OUTREACH
A PR and outreach team was established to communicate the results of our activities to the public. With the help of our staff, we bring our research to a wide audience at various outreach events.
We prepare reports for the media, we have created a modern FZU website and run the FZU photo bank. We use the new foyer and hall at Slovanka as a visitor centre for, for example, school excursions who discover the beauty of physics thanks to our fog chamber, superconducting train and other interactive gadgets.
- FZU EMPLOYER BRAND
The HR Award is a mark of excellence for scientific and research institutions across Europe and a guarantee of European standards of employee care. Obtaining and retaining it brings a bonification when applying for grants, contributes to the reputation of FZU internationally and increases its credibility.
With the contribution of the HR Award, FZU is thus perceived as an attractive and open employer for researchers from all over the world.
