Abstract: The mineral perovskite saw its name coined in 1840 and first laboratory-grown crystals appeared shortly afterwards. Materials with the same structure constitute an extremely active field of research since the 1940’s, with the “modern” ferroelectric perovskites BaTiO3, KNbO3 and KTN among others being still subjects of numerous investigations nowadays.
This presentation will introduce properties of perovskites related to their phase transitions, which induce material specific domain structures. Procedures for crystal growth and poling, i.e. rendering crystalline samples single domain will be described.
The seminar will be chaired by Jiří Hlinka, Department of Dielectrics.
