The Metaverse and the Possibility of the Good Life
A very special institutional colloquium will be given by prof. Mark Coeckelbergh, professor at University of Vienna and ERA Chair at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences, famous author of many books on the relation of technology and ethics, on robotics and on artificial intelligence.
The colloquium will consist of two parts. During the first part, Mark Coeckelbergh will have a seminar:
The Metaverse and the Possibility of the Good Life
Annotation: The virtual life is increasingly part of people’s life, whether in the form of hyper-realistic games or virtual worlds such as metaverse. In this talk, Mark Coeckelbergh argues that metaverses must be understood as real and as offering both possibilities and risks for the good life in the digital age. After reviewing different views on the ontology of virtual life, he discuss some of the key ethical and political issues raised by these technologies.
Then, an extensive discussion with our guest will be possible, focusing especially on the ethics in new technologies, and on the use of artificial intelligence in science and research.
The colloquium will be held in English.
