From Einstein and Bell to quantum technologies: entanglement in action

Text

We are thrilled that as a part of the festival "Sounds of Science" organized by the French Institute in Prague and the French Embassy in Prague, FZU, as one of the festival's partners will host a very exclusive event - the lecture by prof. Alain Aspect, Nobel Prize winner from 2022:

From Einstein and Bell to quantum technologies: entanglement in action

Annotation: As pointed out by Einstein, and confirmed by the violation of Bell’s inequalities, entanglement of separated particles is an extraordinary feature of quantum mechanics, suggesting some kind of non-locality. It is now used in quantum technologies. After recalling what are Bell’s inequalities and their experimental tests, I will show how the notion of non-locality provides fruitful intuitions for some quantum communication methods.

Alain Aspect is currently the Professor of Optics (Augustin Fresnel Chair) at the Graduate School-Université Paris-Saclay, France. In 2022, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics together with John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger, "for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science".

The colloquium will be held in English.
